Special-Purpose Lifts
Nahariya, Israel
submitted by Eshel Lifts Ltd.
Located in Nahariya, Israel’s northernmost coastal city, the 12-story CASA Boutique Hotel has a bar and restaurant for guests on the top floor. Health regulations in Israel require that no food or restaurant supplies be delivered via stairs or in a passenger lift. A solution was needed so the bar and restaurant could receive its license and open for business.
The owner of the CASA hotel signed a contract with Eshel Lifts Ltd. to supply and install a 300-kg service lift. The lift, made by German-headquartered BKG Bunse-Aufzüge GmbH, was installed outside of the building, attached to the external wall. The service lift extends from the hotel’s lower level to the bar level with a total vertical rise of 33.65 m, making it the longest-ever service lift to be installed externally in Israel.
Due to the lift’s location and inclement weather, including cold temperatures, rain and strong winds, the installation was time consuming and dangerous. Safety harnesses were used during the entire process. Additionally, special scaffolding was built around the lift location for safety purposes.
The CASA hotel service lift serves two stops with a speed of .6 m/s. It is controlled by a Siemens PLC (programmable logic controller) and a KEB VVVF (variable-voltage variable-frequency) invertor. The shaft was covered with isolated metal and PVC sheets, and special care was provided to prevent water from entering the shaft. After completion, the lift was handed over to the client, and it has served the hotel for almost two years.
