AVT Beckett Setting Up in Tennessee
Canadian manufacturer AVT Beckett Elevator Ltd. (ELEVATOR WORLD, September 2017) is setting up a manufacturing operation in the Hickory Hill neighborhood of Memphis, the city’s The Daily News reported. Dubbed “AVT Beckett Elevators USA Inc.,” the division is seeking a 10-year “Fast Track” tax abatement and plans to lease 100,000 sq. ft. at 4949 East Raines Road. The company wrote that “it is time to copy our successful business plan that we started in 2007 and start AVT Beckett Elevators USA.”
The US$3.5-million venture would employ 25 people making an average annual base pay of US$35,992-43,190. Tom Rennick, AVT Beckett Business Development manager USA, told EW:
“We are very excited to be down in the U.S. and are hoping to make a significant contribution to the industry while here. Being centrally located, Tennessee offers great road, rail and air networks to move products quickly to our customers throughout the U.S. We will be manufacturing our full line of structural and architectural products, and adding new products to keep pace with industry demands.”
Family-Owned Wisconsin Company Celebrates 60 Years
Waupaca Elevator Co. celebrated 60 years in business in 2017, marking the milestone with a party at its headquarters in Appleton, Wisconsin, on October 3. Providing residential elevators and residential and commercial dumbwaiters, Waupaca started in Waupaca, Wisconsin, with six employees. Growth necessitated two moves to larger facilities in Appleton, its most recent in 2002. Today, the company has more than 50 employees and said in a statement it is “glad to be in business in today’s ever-changing market, and grateful for the contributions of our employees and dealers.”
