Consultant’s Day

Consultants-Day

GAL and H-W host interactive activities in Quincy, Illinois.

A meeting of 25 elevator consultants was held on May 8-10 in Quincy, Illinois. Many knowledgeable employees from GAL Manufacturing Corp. and Hollister-Whitney Elevator Corp. (H-W) presented exciting information about new products, followed by a factory tour. The festivities opened with a welcome on Monday, May 8, on the Mark Twain, a riverboat based in Hannibal, Missouri, providing an opportunity to meet and chat with the other consultants and many employees of GAL and H-W. Dinner was highlighted by expertly prepared lobster tail.

Attendees stayed at the Stoney Creek Inn in Quincy. Tuesday after breakfast, from 8 a.m. until noon, there were presentations by various GAL and H-W people, starting with the history of H-W and GAL. First was the new GALaxy 4 controller. Also included was the Rope Gripper®, MOVFR door operator, zone locking device, disc brake, brake switch, AC permanent-magnet gearless machine and introduction of the new geared machine with flange-mounted motor. The latter will be great for lower-capacity, lower-speed overhead machines. The machine will no longer have to be taken apart to get it in the machine room, nor the tram motor reassembled. Also, it is designed to incorporate the Rope Gripper in the base assembly.

Lunch was a build-your-own-sandwich affair at a local country club, followed by a factory tour of H-W. There were two buildings, so we divided into groups, each having two guides. Dozens of machines were being manufactured, and the machine with the flange-mount motor was shown.

That evening, we all adjourned for a party at Frank Musholt’s property, where there were excellent fresh oysters, huge shrimp and drinks. Those wanting prime rib were cut a more-than-generous piece.
