Development Would Transform L.A. Arts District

Sponsored

Despite size concerns, developer SunCal of Irvine, California, is proposing a major mixed-use project that includes a pair of 58-story towers in the heart of Los Angeles’ Arts District at 6th and Alameda streets, the Los Angeles Times reported. If built, what is being called 6AM would transform the formerly down-on-its-luck neighborhood with approximately 1,730 residences, two hotels, offices, a school and public space on the site of two warehouses. The Arts District has been on the upswing in recent years, with high-end lofts, restaurants and galleries opening. Some observers said they would welcome 6AM as an antidote to the housing shortage and part of the changing, taller face of L.A. Pierre de Meuron of Herzog & de Meuron is the architect.
