DOPPLER Inclined Elevators

DOPPLER Inclined Elevators
The five-star Elivi Skiathos hotel in Skiathos, Greece

How the 20-year-old Polykastro, Greece-based manufacturer builds and installs its specialty lifts in accordance with EN 81-22

DOPPLER offers a range of mobility solutions intended to enhance freedom of movement. The company’s most important task is developing and manufacturing such solutions utilizing R&D, technology, design and aesthetics in accordance with the pertinent requirements.

Inclined elevators play a significant role in human transportation and can be used in several projects for which conventional elevators cannot be used. Accessibility should not be an insurmountable issue, whether the area includes hillside buildings, coastal estates, mountain residences, public facilities, restaurants, hotels, resorts, etc. For such hard-to-reach properties, inclined systems often provide smooth accessibility.

DOPPLER offers full packages for residential, commercial and industrial solutions. Turnkey and fully customizable, they always involve analyzing site conditions (topography and other geotechnical data), local building codes, application type, capacity needs, technical specifications, aesthetic preferences and more. Inclined lifts are specially designed to meet the requirements for conveying passengers or passengers and loads, traveling along guide rails at an angle of 15-75° to horizontal. They are separated from the surroundings by total or partial enclosures to protect people from moving parts.

DOPPLER designs and manufactures inclined elevators to meet the technical requirements of the site and aesthetic preferences of the client.

The hoistway’s structure includes emergency doors that may also make up the landing and lead to a permanent walkway from one end of the landing platform to the other, which is used for emergencies and inspection. For more complex structures, an adjacent car can be provided with all the necessary equipment for aiding evacuation. Pit and headroom spaces are of sufficient size, taking into consideration where the lift will be at its bottom and top overtravels. If such sufficient spaces are not available, proper movable stops ensure these spaces will be created for maintenance and inspection purposes.

At each floor level, landing doors of any type (automatic sliding doors, swing doors, etc.) can be provided, and the car will always be equipped with a car door lock. The wall surfaces of the hoistway can be imperforate of any type and/or perforated (according to EN ISO 13857:2008) to serve the use of the lift (e.g., observation-type in galleries or atriums, or garden lifts). The hoistway and the walkway (where applicable) are provided with permanently installed electric lighting for easy and safe inspection and maintenance work.

The lift machine and its associated equipment can be in a machine room or inside the hoistway, while the suspension means can be wire ropes or steel chains with additional weather protection for open hoistways. The cabin structure adopts all the relevant regulations regarding its strength and ease of use, while the car withstands all the forces exerted by the rated load and weight of cabin components in operation.

Safety

DOPPLER inclined elevators provide fully automatic transportation between different levels to help ensure a safe ride. This assurance is backed up by a mechanical safety system, ensuring passengers’ safety during movement. The car is also provided with a safety gear acting in both directions of travel. It is tripped by an overspeed governor, while buffers are provided at the bottom limit of travel and the counterweight frame to secure uncontrolled movement.

The car is always equipped with alarm equipment, and the possibility of monitoring the lift remotely by installing an additional plug-and-play kit on the control panel is available. DOPPLER’s inclined lifts are in accordance with the provisions of EN 81-22.

Giannis Nikolaou has been DOPPLER’s technical director since 2016, managing a team of 20 mechanical and electrical engineers. Nikolaou started his career at the company seven years ago as an R&D engineer and is responsible for the development of new products and solutions, following emerging market demand, while ensuring consistent manufacturability.
