TKE premieres TWIN technology in Southeast Asia.

The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR) complex was built in 1993. However, due to an increasing number of government officials and politicians working in the building in recent years, the original mobility solutions proved insufficient. This resulted in long waiting times at elevators and complaints from building occupants. TK Elevator (TKE) was able to modernize the existing elevator system to deliver a safe, fast and reliable solution that would increase the passenger-handling capacity with minimal disruption. The project was the first example of the use of the TWIN elevator in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region.

The major challenge was to modernize the mobility solution already in place within this occupied government building. TKE needed to put forward a solution that would avoid causing any inconvenience to those using the building daily.

An elevator traffic consultation was carried out for the customer prior to project commencement to accurately project traffic. This consultation also highlighted the benefits of TKE’s unique modernization solution — the TWIN elevator, which features two independently operated cars occupying a single shaft. The TWIN elevator was selected for its agility, space-saving configuration and enhanced conveyance capacity.

The elevators were modernized to include TKE’s AGILE DSC.

TKE put forward a detailed plan to minimize disruption, delays and safety issues by modernizing the building in phases, retaining the necessary elevator service while delivering an effective and speedy installation of the new system. This was achieved not only through precise and professional project management but also TKE’s AGILE Destination Control (DSC) overlay. This additional solution overrides existing elevator controls to ascertain the optimum operating patterns of the elevator systems and provide smart and effective deployment of elevator cars in groups throughout the building during the installation period.

TKE put forward a well-planned and detailed proposal based on its TWIN elevator system, which offers a balance of passenger handling capacity and speed for the tower, while minimizing energy consumption and maximizing the availability of valuable real estate. TWIN is a solution to challenges related to lengthy queues and excessive travel times associated with traditional single-car elevators, and it provides optimized and sustainable mobility solutions to modernization projects that have little room for major construction work, such as building additional shafts.

The solution included the installation of two sets, or four cars, of TWIN elevators, two panoramic passenger lifts, as well as the modernization of five single-car passenger lift units. The use of two AGILE DSC systems allowed all elevators to be controlled and dispatched seamlessly, providing efficient elevator service for workers and visitors who frequently travel between floors in the building. With this versatile two-car configuration, time to destination is vastly reduced within extremely busy buildings like the DPR tower.

With the project signaling the first time TKE’s TWIN elevators have been used in Indonesia, the company took this opportunity to introduce the solution to the Southeast Asia region. The successful modernization and installation of the TWIN elevator inside a government building was also of great strategic importance, proving that the TWIN elevator is an ideal modernization solution to boost passenger capacity without requiring major work to existing infrastructure through the construction of new elevator shafts.

The project gave TKE an opportunity to showcase the TWIN elevator as an effective solution for increasing traffic capacity and elevator availability while shortening wait times, providing a solution for a longstanding problem faced by buildings with high inter-floor traffic, such as commercial properties, government headquarters, hospitals and universities. As such, TKE believes its TWIN elevator is an effective and ideal solution for modernization projects across the region, where there is a need for capacity upgrades and/or modernization of mobility solutions in older tall buildings across the region.
