Editor’s Overview Türkiye January – February 2021 Issue

Dear Elevator World Turkey readers,

Everyone agrees on how tough the year 2020 was, which we have left behind. As a country, we had to deal with the exchange rate and economic problems brought by COVID-19. The successive vaccination news has built up our hopes even a little for 2021. Apart from India’s IEE Expo and China’s WEE Expo in 2020, almost no other big event could take place for our industry. All fairs and congresses were either postponed to 2021 or canceled. Lastly, the Asansör Istanbul fair, which was to take place in our country, was postponed to 7-10 July 2021.

Despite the challenging year, there were more submission than expected to the Project of the Year competition, which is organized by Elevator World every year. This year the competition included some projects from our country as well, and choosing the winning projects was not easy for the jury. The winning projects in the competition, which took place in eight categories, came from Australia, the United States of America, Israel, Hong Kong, Spain, Mexico and Romania. You can participate in the next contest with the extraordinary projects you have completed in the last two years. You can access details and application form on our website, elevatorworld.com/poy.

In this issue, you can read the detailed news about the foundation story and the last phase of Yükseliş Asansör, an Ankara-based company that added a new factory phase in its 40th year and put Turkey’s highest test tower into operation.

The panel on “What Shapes the Cities of the Future” organized by CTBUH Turkey and held online due to the pandemic in November, discussed the latest trends and technologies of the architectural projects of the future. In the article, written by Fulya Ayyıldız from Solutions by Liftinstituut, all the topics discussed in the event were carefully detailed for you.

Our topic for this issue is New and Emerging Technologies. With the IoT (Internet of Things) technology beginning to be used in the elevator industry, the issue of cybersecurity has started to be discussed. Articles by Erol Akçay and Shari Parillo on this subject will shed light for you. The “Heidi” robot designed by Schindler for elevator installation in high-rise buildings, and Hongliang Liang’s article on designing new MRL elevators, are among the articles you will enjoy reading.

I wish 2021 to bring happiness in the first place, profits, and health.
