Dear Readers of Elevator World Turkey,

The countries’ expectations of economic shrinkage due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the results of the second quarter are being announced worldwide. Although the conditions vary in different countries, the rates of change are between 5 and 40 percent. At this point, at Elevator World, Inc., we have conducted a worldwide survey in order to measure the impacts of the pandemic on the elevator and escalator industry, with the contributions of VFA Interlift e.V. German Elevator Association, organizer AFAG and Credit Suisse.

You may find detailed information and graphics about the survey in this issue, and also the comments of company rep-resentatives regarding the current situation as well as their future expectations.

As you see on the cover, the elevator project for the Heav-en Sinkhole at the Heaven and Hell Site in Silifke, Mersin, which was initiated to provide access for the disabled and which was prepared by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has been completed by EAS Asansör. You will enjoy reading the article and details of this extraor-dinary engineering work.

Italy-based Omarlift, which manufactures hydraulic ele-vator systems, launched its new Smart Hydraulic Pump Unit with Electronic Valve at its factory located in Temelli, Anka-ra. At the opening ceremony and product launch, which was one of the first events of the Turkish Elevator industry during the pandemic, the guests were welcomed in line with social distancing rules.

In this issue, the theme we have focused is Control Sys-tems, which are considered the brains of elevators. You will enjoy reading the articles by Erol Akçay of Liftinstituut Solu-tions and Nihat Güven of Mik-El regarding this field, which constantly makes progress thanks to new technologies. I would like to thank the authors for their time and efforts.

İsmail Yıldırım, who enlivens our magazine with his articles on real life, is again with us with an article that contains information on Village Institutes.

Our education system, which is one of the bleeding wounds of our country, still cannot overcome its problems even after 70 years because of the wrong policies of that time. After reading the article, you will be upset because such a beautiful step has been put aside due to political reasons.
