171-Unit Contract for French Railway
Otis France has been awarded a contract by SNCF French Rail to install 171 escalators and moving walks for northern France. Seventy-five Otis escalators will support the future Project Eole (East-West Express) stations: Porte Maillot, CNIT-La Défense and Nanterre La Folie. The units will be deployed over seven years. The project will extend the future E line of the RER commuter network to the west, which will begin service in 2024 in the Île-de-France region as far north as Mantes-la-Jolie. The project includes more, faster trains and the most interconnections of any line in the region. It will also contribute to mobility between sites during the 2024 Olympic Games.
The contract also includes 94 escalators and two moving walks, covering renewal of equipment and maintenance in the existing Magenta and Haussmann Saint-Lazare stations. These units are to be installed over 10 years.
The escalators will be from Otis’ heaviest line (520 NPE) and include steps fitted with sensors and cameras that analyze and record the state of each component to anticipate breakdowns and limit downtimes (Dr. Step™). Delivery of the first four machines is set for September in the Haussmann Saint-Lazare station. Twenty-four escalators are to be in service by the end of 2019, and 120 machines are to be in operation by 2020. The contract includes maintenance for 15 years and “mid-life” renovations for all units.
27 Bespoke Units for Peninsula London
Otis UK & Ireland won a contract from luxury developers The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd. to supply and install a suite of high-end, bespoke Gen2® Stream elevators within The Peninsula London complex on Hyde Park Corner. Otis will provide 27 passenger and 10 platform elevators, saying they will include “high-quality finishes and variable-geometry cars to create a unique vertical-transportation experience inside the hotel.”
Otis’ factory in Gien, France, is supplying the elevators. Each can carry 26 people and travel at a top speed of 1.75 mps. The machine-room-less Gen2 Stream units will have custom interiors created in partnership with the hotel’s architects. Designed by Hopkins Architects, The Peninsula London is a 190-room hotel including 24-28 residential apartments. It is set to open in 2021.
Nine Premium Units Being Added to Haikou Twin Towers
Otis Elevator (China) Co., Ltd. will provide nine “super double-deck elevators” for Haikou Twin Towers. “Super double-deck” technology automatically adjusts the height between the cars in the double-deck configuration to give architects more freedom to plan diverse floor heights, while taking advantage of double-deck elevator systems’ efficiency. Otis said its technology has been adopted in such landmark buildings in China as Ping An Finance Centre in Shenzhen and Canton Tower in Guangzhou.
The under-construction towers are each to rise approximately 428 m above the city’s new Central Business District to become the new high-rise landmark on Hainan Island, an international tourism destination off the coast of southern China. Part of modernization efforts of the entire city of Haikou, China, they are to provide 720,000 m2 of mixed-use space for more than 20,000 people and attract at least 3 million tourists each year, China Plus reported. The South Tower is to be complete in 2020, with the North Tower wrapping up in 2023.
