With the cooperation of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bursa TEKNOSAB and the support of TÜBİTAK, Gökmen Space and Aviation Education Center (GUHEM) aims to increase the awareness of the new generation in the field of space and aviation.

GUHEM, which is built on a close area of approximately 13 thousand m2 as the first space-themed center of Turkey, aims to increase the awareness of the new generation about aviation and space. The project was implemented with the aim of inspiring interest among young people about the space and aviation industry and opening a new window for their dreams about their future goals. Starting from the planning stage, the project aims to manage and guide children’s and young people interest in space.

GUHEM’s premises, designed like a zeppelin, consists of exhibition areas and arrangements for educational purposes related to space and aviation. Therefore, many special designs were placed within the Space Center, including a airplane close to full size. The most striking part of the project has been the round, completely glass elevator which gives the sense of going into the space from the Earth.

The authorities first started negotiations about a custom elevator with Otis Turkey at the project planning stage. As they found the technical support they needed, they started working on a safe and comfortable take-off simulation. About Robusta ED

Robusta ED, one of the best examples of a new generation of elevators developed in 2012, is an Otis Turkey product. R&D, design and engineering of Robusta ED elevators were carried out in the manufacturing plants in Turkey. Existing capacity of 30 persons has been increased to 70 persons with Robusta ED. These high-performance elevators are now exported to the whole world. The lifts of the Sydney Opera House, one of the most magnificent buildings in the world, and the Grand Arche monument, which is one of the symbols of Paris, were also replaced with innovative Robusta ED elevator units. Arlozorov 17 and Marom Negba, which are the most spectacular buildings of Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi Plaza in Kazakhstan, Gateway Shopping Mall in Australia, 1st Bank in Britain and Etihad Museum in United Arab Emirates have Robusta ED units that were manufactured in Turkey. The ‘GeN2’ belt system elevator units, including Robusta, are used in numerous projects all over the world. ‘GeN2’ system reduces energy consumption up to 50% while the flat belts in the system and gearless machine eliminates the need for lubrication. In addition to Robusta ED with a speed of 0.8m/s and GeN2 Premier with a speed of 1.75m/s, a specific elevator has been designed and manufactured in Turkey. This elevator has been manufactured completely as a round glass cab called PD9. Being manufactured in Otis Turkey’s Istanbul factory, the elevator has been installed following the technical studies of the Turkish engineers. Special LED lights were used in the hoistway of the 4-ton capacity panoramic elevator with a machine room and three landings. The elevator has been put in the service of those who are interested in aviation and space.

The ReGen drive system used in Otis elevators minimizes the impact on the building’s electrical system, and therefore uses up to 75% less energy.
