In the last century, the human lifespan has been increasing due to developments in healthy nutrition and the treatment of diseases. This leads to a higher average age and the formation of a wealthy elderly population, especially in developed countries. For this reason, there is an explosion of demand for home lifts developed to solve the access problem in two-story residences. There has also been an inflation in the number of manufacturers and models of home lifts produced from various technologies such as electric, hydraulic, geared, and even pneumatic. I observed one of the most concrete examples of this closely at the WEE Expo China Fair organized in May. There was a significant increase in the number of home lifts exhibited compared to previous fairs.
We have decided to cover home lifts, which have such a wide product range and number of manufacturers, as a dossier in the July-August issue of ELEVATOR WORLD Türkiye. We would like to express our thanks to Selçuk Gençol, Mehmet Cömert, Süleyman Özcan, Cem Kapukaya and Caleb Terpstra for their invaluable contributions with their articles to this issue.
The May-June period was quite busy in terms of events. The most important of these events for our country was undoubtedly the elevex Konya Fair, held for the first time. Manufacturers from Konya made an appearance at the first fair organized by Vizyon Fuarcılık.
Another important event taking place in our country in May was the ELA Congress. ELA, the umbrella organization of associations in the European Economic Area or the Council of Europe member countries, held its 26th General Assembly and Conference at the Taksim Grand Hyatt hotel in Istanbul, with a huge attendance, as it did 11 years ago.
The Elevator Industrialists’ Federation (ASFED), established in 2013 to act as the umbrella organization for elevator and escalator associations operating in Türkiye, was granted the right to use the term “Turkish” in its name in 2020. As a result, it was renamed the Turkish Elevator Industrialists Federation (TASFED). Yusuf Atik, who put great effort into establishing the Federation and has been serving as the president of the Board of Directors since its establishment, handed over the flag to Cem Bozdağ after the Sixth Ordinary General Assembly.
You can also read various news and events in this issue, such as the top five Export Champion companies, which are the pride of our country; WİN Eurasia Fair, SIEME (International Symposium on Height and Mobility in Buildings), held for the first time in Spain; Ascen.tec Fair, held for the third time in Greece; TASFED Gaziantep Elevator Academy, the fourth academy opened by TASFED; and MMO’s Chamber Technical Report on Rope Transport Systems Controls.
The developments in the vertical transportation sector around the world and in Türkiye, and our Event Calendar covering the next two years, which the entire lift industry follows from our magazine, are among the most followed sections of our magazine. It also motivates us that many readers take pictures of the event calendar and save it on their phones.
Wishing you a healthy and happy summer …
