The Spanish organization brings together more than 140 public and private entities.
The multinational KONE, recognized as a world leader in providing elevators, escalators and automatic doors, as well as solutions for the maintenance and modernization of buildings, has joined the Madrid World Capital of Construction, Engineering and Architecture Association (MWCC), which brings together more than 140 public and private entities. The main objective of this association focuses on strengthening Madrid’s position and its leadership in the internationalization of Spanish companies as benchmarks in the construction, engineering and architecture sectors. The aim is to stimulate and promote these sectors, consolidating the presence of Spain in the market.
Specifically, MWCC and KONE have reached this union to become actively involved in positioning the capital of Spain — Madrid — as an international benchmark in everything related to urban solutions, mobility and sustainability. In this way, KONE intends to promote a greater urban balance in the capital with the purpose of building more sustainable homes and cities.
Filipe Nóbrega, general director of KONE Ibérica, said:
“We are very happy to be able to belong to the MWCC and contribute to the development of the construction and architecture sector in Spain, as well as helping to position Madrid as an international benchmark for smart and sustainable cities. Thus, we take another step to improve urban mobility and promote efficiency and quality of life in our cities.”
For his part, David García Núñez, president of MWCC, said:
“KONE’s membership is one more step in the evolution of the association as a true benchmark for public-private collaboration in the field of urban solutions. Personally, I consider that we are exceptionally developing a collaboration framework that is an international benchmark.”
This collaboration for the benefit of Madrid society is part of KONE’s smart and sustainable cities strategy. The Finnish company is committed to developing smarter and more sustainable urban environments through comprehensive solutions that improve people’s quality of life and their movements, as well as efficiency in operations and professional services in collaboration with authorities, customers and partners.
The MWCC is a project whose origins date back to 2016, but it was in 2020 when it materialized as an association in defense of Madrid as one of the “main world exponents of engineering, construction and architecture, as well as the development of projects of urban mobility.” This is defined as “the sum of important companies, Madrid and Spanish entities that have joined forces” to achieve:
- The international positioning of Madrid and Spain as a world reference in the field of engineering, construction and architecture.
- The educational leadership of Madrid and Spanish universities and business schools.
- The positioning of Madrid and Spain as a hub for innovation, sustainability and responsibility.
- The exposure of new city models to society.
The association’s members include leading organizations in technology, insurers, certifiers, financial and energy entities, construction companies, consultants, universities, training entities, public companies and national, regional and local entities, thus constituting a true example of private and public collaboration. With its joining of MWCC, KONE continues to work on its sustainability strategy to advance the path towards more sustainable urban environments.
