Brasília, the Brazilian capital city designed by Oscar Niemeyer, hosted the Lift Road Show for the first time ever on November 27, 2024. This is a traveling technical expo for the vertical-transportation (VT) industry organized by Cardoso Almeida Eventos, the company responsible for ExpoElevador Brasil. Edilberto Almeida, organizer of the event and editor of Elevador Brasil magazine, said:

“To bring this event to the capital city of our country is a unique opportunity to encourage the dialogue among the Central-West Region professionals and to promote the technological advances in an essential zone for urban mobility.”

This event brought together professionals and companies of the sector and provided a day of innovations, networking and learning. In this eighth edition, the show reinforced its role as an essential experience for the technical and business community within the VT sector.

Debates and Lectures

Following a consistent program, Lift Road Show included lectures and debates on fundamental issues for the VT industry.

Kátia Treviso opened the lecture section addressing the impact of AI to capture customers. Then, Fábio Aranha described how “the elevator’s brains” (controllers) push innovation by offering new ideas on applied technology to improve those controllers. At the end of the lecture section, Carlos Mussi of Monteferro advised attendees on the dangers that irregular guiderail imports may bring about.

In the afternoon debate section, fundamental issues were discussed. “Elevators and AI” was led by Santos and Reinaldo Paixão and explored the future of automation in the sector. The presentation highlighted how new technologies are changing the way in which elevators are operating with more efficiency, safety and connectivity.

Edson Parmejano, Carlos Eduardo and Ederson Silva addressed “Elevator Accidents in Brazil: Teaching, Hazard Prevention and Responsibility.” The speakers developed a technical and thoughtful revision on safety, an issue of extreme importance because of increased elevator incidents in 2024.

Discussed Issues

  • Cause and connected factors maintenance/inspections: Are elevator inspections in Brazil enough?
  • Technical standards and legislation: How can standards be more rigorous regarding accident responsibility?
  • Technology and innovation: Is updating standards a feasible solution for improving safety in old installations?
  • Training and education: How can lack of training cause serious malfunction failures?
  • Social and economic issues: Is public awareness on the importance of preventive maintenance enough?
  • Prevention and solutions: Can elevator certification by independent agencies improve safety?

Innovations and Solutions

Lift Road Show Brasília was an ideal setting for presenting recent trends that promise to boost VT in Brazil. Exhibitors showcased cutting-edge technology, new components and solutions to raise efficiency, safety and sustainability standards.

Infolev launched Nanolev — a convenient and compact controller for accessibility platforms — and Infoslim, a new controller that improves connectivity. It provides a series of resources such as Bluetooth® programming and internet remote monitoring allowing for precise diagnoses and back up in real time from anywhere in the world. Fábio Aranha, Infolev´s founder, appreciates shows like Lift Road Show because they strengthen relationships, facilitate information exchange, reveal market demands and help to keep attendees updated in such a dynamic sector.

Wittur presented the operator Augusta Eco Evo. It is a solution for residential buildings with a limited height on the last stop. Featuring a horizontal drive, it is a versatile and easy-to-install product. It meets the new Standard ABNT NBR 16858-1/2 requirements. Cristiano Troise, Wittur´s commercial manager, explained:

“This product features Egress Device, a rescue system and car door opening by means of a steel wire directly linked to the out-of-floor blocking.”

Rinaldo Gutiérrez, Scanchip founder, showcased the new Serial Controller 5 according to NM 16858 Standard with destination control. “The show helps us to increase the offer and competition,” Gutiérrez said.

Hidracomp is recognized as a national pioneer in hydraulic automation. It presented mini controllers with soft start-stop by Dexco Hydraulics. They are equipped with 5 HP, 12 V or 24 V, AC and DC motors and a pressure up to 250 bar.

INC Electrônica exhibited its sensors for traction belts, a solution according to ABTN that enhances equipment safety and reliability.

Expectations for the Next Years

The Brazilian manufacturers pointed out that the VT sector is going through a transformation period on account of technological breakthroughs and a growing demand for sustainability.
