The 11th Lift Symposium, which has become traditional under the umbrella of Izmir Branch on behalf of the TMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers and the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, which has organized several events for the lift and escalator industry since 1993, was held on October 17-19, 2024, at the MMO Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Center with the theme of “Earthquake and Lift.” If we look at it objectively, the event was a bit far from its former glory. As a result of the organizers not being in touch with the entire sector except for a few associations and not cooperating with any media institution, especially Elevator World, both the participation and the presentations made this year, except for a few, were not very strong. In addition, the fact that no food service was provided to the delegates created another grievance. There should be a food service, even if it is for a fee, because there are no restaurants in the vicinity of the Tepekule Congress Center. We are always ready to do our best to make the upcoming event more successful if requested. You can read the detailed news about the event and presentations in this issue.
On May 1, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced sanctions targeting companies and individuals. These sanctions are imposed on entities providing technology and equipment support to Russia’s defense sector amid its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. One company was particularly notable in this decision. For the first time in U.S. history, a company from the lift industry has been added to the sanctions list: İDA Asansör San.Tic.Ltd.Şti. We conducted an interview with the company owner, Ömer Baran, who everyone is curious about, on this subject.
