Next-Gen Vertical Transportation

Efficient, secure and user-friendly solutions

Vertical transportation (VT) is crucial in modern urban infrastructure, enabling seamless movement within buildings while ensuring accessibility, safety and inclusivity. With rapid technological advancements, elevator and escalator systems are evolving to provide efficient, secure and user-friendly solutions. This article explores key imperatives for VT, focusing on easy access, safety and inclusive usage.

Ensuring Easy Access

Easy and convenient access is crucial for vertical mobility in buildings and public spaces. Innovations in elevator and escalator technology enhance efficiency, while smart planning ensures seamless movement. Features like voice commands, Braille buttons and assistive controls enhance accessibility for differently abled individuals and elders and ensure inclusive and secure transportation.

Security is a key aspect of modern VT, with features like biometric scanning and RFID card access ensuring restricted entry to specific floors. Multi-beam IR sensor detection enhances safe and easy passenger access, while specialized functions such as attendant and independent operation cater to specific user needs, enhancing overall passenger usage.

Advanced group elevator function leverages predictive service technology to optimize the allocation of elevators, reducing wait times and improving efficiency. Elevator destination dispatch solutions take traffic management a step further by grouping passengers based on their destinations, leading to faster service and reduced congestion. Similarly, time-based floor service allows elevators to be programmed to serve specific floors at designated times, ensuring operational efficiency and user convenience. Advanced systems identify user needs and adapt accordingly, including emergency responses to power failures, fires or seismic events.

Safety: The Core of VT

Safety remains the top priority in VT, ensuring the protection of passengers, service engineers and equipment. Modern elevators comply with Indian Standards IS17900 (ISO8100), adhering to stringent safety protocols. Self-detection of failures enables real-time issue identification, preventing unsafe operations, while automatic suspension during emergencies like fire, seismic activity or power failures minimizes risks.

To enhance safety, VT systems integrate automated and manual rescue operations for safe and quick response during breakdowns. Post-pandemic, the demand for contactless operations has grown, further driving innovations in safe and secure touch-free elevator technology. Additionally, IoT-connected smart elevators enable remote monitoring and predictive maintenance, ensuring continuous safety.

Inclusive Usage and Sustainability

Energy efficiency and sustainability are integral to modern VT solutions, contributing to reduced energy consumption and environmental impact. Energy-efficient equipment selection, including high-efficiency machines, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and smart controllers, helps minimize energy usage.

Additionally, regenerative drives capture excess power generated during operation and return it to the power grid, significantly improving energy efficiency. To further optimize energy consumption, idle power optimization features such as automatic fan cutoff, display dimming and energy-saving modes are implemented during non-peak hours. The use of LED lighting also enhances sustainability by reducing power consumption and increasing operational efficiency.
