Large Order for Chinese Hospital

KONE has landed an order to supply 148 elevators and 56 escalators to the Xi’an International Medical Building in Xi’an, China. Located in the Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi province, the facility will be among the largest of its kind in the world upon completion in 2020. The order includes 124 S MonoSpace® and 10 N MonoSpace elevators, four TranSysTM freight elevators and 56 TravelMasterTM escalators. Executive Vice President William B. Johnson stated:

“Reliability, safety and efficiency are essential elements of designing solutions for the medical environment. Solutions need to fit the varied and specific needs of patients, staff, visitors, medical equipment and various supplies, including food and laundry. We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the smooth operation of [the facility].”

More Zhengzhou Metro Projects

KONE announced in March that it won an order for phase two of the Zhengzhou metro line 2 expansion and phase two of the Zhengzhou suburb metro line. The company is already providing escalators and elevators for phase two of metro line 1 construction and phase one of metro line 2 development (ELEVATOR WORLD, March 2018). This time, it will add 64 TransitMasterTM escalators, 13 MonoSpace® elevators and two MiniSpaceTM elevators. Some 290,000 commuters will use the equipment every day following its installation, to be completed at the end of this year. The second phase of the metro line 2 expansion runs approximately 10 km.

VT for New Dubai Office Building

KONE has been selected to provide the vertical-transportation (VT) package for ICD Brookfield Place, a 54-story, 282-m-tall office tower being built in Dubai. The order includes 17 MonoSpace®, 27 MiniSpaceTM and two scenic elevators, and five escalators. Scheduled for completion in March 2019, ICD Brookfield Place will contain more than 950,000 sq. ft. of office space and be connected to a five-story, 150,000-sq.-ft. retail center. The project also includes a 21,000-sq.-ft. public area flanked by restaurants and parking for 2,700 cars. Developers are Investment Corp. of Dubai and Brookfield JV, and the main contractor is Multiplex Ssangyong JV.

Elevators for Toronto LRT Expansion

KONE will provide 51 MonoSpace® 700 elevators to 16 stations that are part of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) expansion project in Toronto. Construction of a total of 25 stations is expected to begin in June, with the stations opening by 2022. The project is owned and designed by Metrolinx and operated by the Toronto Transit Commission. The architect is Crosslinx Transit Solutions Design, a joint venture of SNC-Lavalin Inc. and IBI Group, and the general contractor is Crosslinx Transit Solutions Constructors, a partnership of SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific) Inc., Dragados Canada Inc., EllisDon Civil Ltd. and Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc.

VT for Msheireb Downtown Doha

KONE has been selected to provide the vertical-transportation (VT) package for the fourth and final phase of the Msheireb Downtown Doha mixed-use development in Qatar’s old commercial center. Equipment includes 53 MonoSpace® 700, 14 MiniSpaceTM and three TranSysTM freight elevators, and two TravelMasterTM escalators. The order also includes KONE’s destination-control and E-Link equipment-monitoring systems. Phase four consists of a public plaza, 11 buildings of up to 113 m    in height and six parking basements covering a total gross floor area of 133,410 m2. Msheireb Properties is the developer, and  HOK is the lead consultant, with Teyseer Contracting Co. WLL and Consolidated Contractors Group S.A.L. serving as phase-four contractors.
