KONE Supplying Chinese Metros
KONE continues an already strong relationship with the Chinese metro system with a pair of contracts to supply 117 and 82 units to Line 1 of the Lanzhou Metro and the extension of Line 5 of the Shanghai metro, respectively. For phase one of the Lanzhou Metro, which includes 20 underground stations covering 26 km, KONE is supplying 117 TravelMasterTM escalators. For the Line 5 of the Shanghai Metro, an extension that includes nine new stations (four of which are underground), KONE is supplying 69 TravelMaster escalators and 24 MonoSpace® elevators. The Lanzhou Line is scheduled for completion in 2017 and the Shanghai Line 5 extension by the end of 2017.
Forty Toshiba Johnson Elevators for Gurgaon Complex
Toshiba Johnson Elevators (India) Pvt. Ltd. has received an order for 40 elevators, including eight 3-mps units, for developer DLF’s luxury condominium project, The Camellias in Gurgaon, India. Scheduled to be completed this year, it will consist of nine towers with 429 apartments. The tallest tower is to reach 156 m.
Yoshiyuki Mabuchi, managing director, Toshiba Johnson, commented:
“India is a significant market for us, and we are focusing to consolidate our market share in the premium segment and build up the upper middle segment with the launch of a new product lineup. Toshiba Johnson will install its flagship ELCOSMO-III series, designed with environmental consciousness and reliable safety features. It includes a compact, high-efficient permanent-magnet synchronous motor, LED lighting, lightweight car, advanced control panels, lead-free parts and oil-free roller guides and guide rails.
Otis Providing 48 Elevators to Xiamen ITFC
Otis China is providing 48 elevators to the 137-m-tall Xiamen International Trade Financial Center (ITFC) in Xiamen, China. The order consists of 14 Skyrise®, 18 Gen2® and 16 Sky® elevators. Skyrise provides a rise of up to 600 m in single-, double- and “super double-deck” (accommodating floor height differences of up to 2 m) configurations and has been implemented in new Chinese landmarks such as the Ping An Finance Center in Shenzhen. Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co. Ltd. President Tony Black observed that Gen2 and Skyrise create excess energy that is fed back into the grid as they descend, helping meet China’s demand for sustainability. Xiamen ITFC is scheduled for completion later this year.
KONE Providing Elevators for Australia 108
KONE is providing 13 elevators to the 100-story, 319-m-tall Australia 108 at 70 Southbank Boulevard in Melbourne (ELEVATOR WORLD, September 2014), which, upon completion, will be the tallest apartment building in the Southern Hemisphere. The order consists of 10 MiniSpaceTM high-speed elevators with UltraRope® and three MonoSpace® elevators with a maximum travel height of 306.8 m. Neeraj Sharma, executive vice president of KONE, Asia-Pacific, said the order indicates strong interest in KONE’s UltraRope hoisting technology.
Apex Wins Major Repair/Maintenance Contract
The Borough of Camden in London has awarded a five-year repair and maintenance contract to Apex Lifts for lifts in its 33,000 homes across the borough. In addition to planned repair and maintenance, the contract includes emergency calls, routine health and safety inspections and replacement parts — including the manufacture of parts no longer in stock — for approximately 500 units across the region. Apex is taking on employees of Camden’s previous provider to perform the work.
