All Dormitories Are Visited One by One, and Lift Systems Are Inspected

Osman Aşkın Bak, Minister of Youth and Sports, stated that they have appointed engineers to individually inspect the lift systems in dormitories under the General Directorate of Credit and Dormitories.

Recently, the surge in the number of lift accidents and malfunctions, especially at the dormitories of the Credit and Dormitories Institution, has been one of the most prominent issues on the national agenda.  While answering questions from press members after the Cabinet Meeting held at the Presidential Complex, Bak was also asked a question regarding the lifts in Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK) dormitories.

Upon being asked what kind of activities are being carried out regarding the lift accidents in KYK dormitories, Minister Bak replied, “We are introducing a QR code application for lifts in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Students will be able to view everything transparently through this system. Information such as the type of the lift and the date of its maintenance will be displayed through the QR code. The placement of the QR codes will be completed in a very short time.”

Stating that the contracts for lifts are under the spotlight, Bak noted, “Engineers have been assigned by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and all dormitories are being visited one by one, and lift systems are being inspected. Three people were arrested as part of the judicial investigation into the lift accident that occurred in Aydın. A ministry inspector assigned to the administrative investigation is currently preparing a report. The lifts in the dormitories have safety equipment. Up until now, there had never been a lift fall incident in any of our dormitories. In cases such as voltage failure, the lift secures itself and automatically descends to the lowest floor, that is, to a safe place.”

Bak noted that the contracts of the lifts in student dormitories are renewed every year, and their maintenance and monthly periodic inspections are carried out regularly. He added that any failures are addressed immediately.
