Returning to the Scene

In June, Terry Lifts returned to the home of care worker Carl Lamptey and his family to find out how life has changed since the company’s Melody 3 vertical platform lift was installed as part of an ITV Love Your Garden transformation. Before the makeover, the garden was accessed by several steps from a raised patio and largely laid to lawn. Entering the space was a challenge for Carl’s wife, Elle, who had been diagnosed with a spinal disability and could no longer walk properly.

Terry Lifts was asked by national treasure Alan Titchmarsh and the Love Your Garden team to provide a solution. The lift manufacturer installed a Melody 3 vertical platform lift in anthracite black with glass doors and side panels. Travelling a maximum of 3 m, the lift can accommodate virtually any manual or powered wheelchair, and a carer. The episode originally aired in September 2021.

The lift has proven to be a life-changer for Elle. It gives her independent access to the garden, where she can immerse herself in the scent and texture of the plants and enjoy the space with her family. She said:

“The lift has made a huge difference to my quality of life and had a big impact on family life. I can spend time in the garden with my children without having to rely on anyone else. I have my independence back.”
