Sefton Park Palm House is celebrating its 125th birthday this year. Designed in the tradition of Joseph Paxton’s glass houses, it is now home to a collection of more than 200 plants from five continents, a café and multiple statues.
The Victorian glasshouse also has a platform lift that was installed earlier this year. The project was managed by Knowsley Lift Services’ Senior Technical Project Manager Dave Tracy and Project Coordinators Helen Murphy and Sophie Morrison. Although the elevator operates inside the building, due to the humid climate, it was decided that the Gartec 7000XT External Platform Lift would be a more suitable model for the project since it comes with rust-proof guides and a ventilation fan. This ensured that the warm conditions would not have any adverse effects on the operation and longevity of the lift. In addition, it is energy-efficient and composed of 95% recycled and recyclable materials. The lift was finished in white with glazed automatic opening doors and glazed shaft panels, giving it a clean and open look. The lift sits in the middle of the building, surrounded by sculpted statues of famous gardeners, explorers and scientists by Chavillaud.
Today, Sefton Park Palm House is a charity and a popular visitor attraction in Liverpool that is open seven days a week.
