“Seismic Zone Calculations in Lifts” seminar was held by The Chamber of Electrical Engineers (EMO) and Association of Aegean Lift and Escalator Industrialists (EAYSAD) at EMO Izmir Branch by Serdar Tavaslıoğlu on May 8th, 2024.
Association members and companies operating in the region showed a great deal interest in the seminar “Seismic Zone Calculations in Lifts” which was organized for the first time by EMO Izmir Branch and EAYSAD at the new conference hall of EMO Izmir Branch.
Following the speeches of the EMO Izmir Branch Chairman Gülhan Gürler and EAYSAD Vice President of the Executive Board Mert Öğüşlü, a 2-session training was given by Serdar Tavaslıoğlu, in which detailed information on various important issues including what measures be taken through seismic zone calculations in lifts was provided through several images and pictures.
In the first session of the training, Serdar Tavaslıoğlu stated that the strength of buildings was enhanced with the Earthquake Regulation issued in 2007 while the same sensitivity has not been displayed for the lifts which are co-operators of a building. He then talked about the design accelerations based on the seismic lift categories as well as calculations based on the TS EN 81-77 and measures to be taken.
He listed the Measures Taken by the TS EN 81-77 Standard for earthquake incidents as follows:
- Protections against being stuck in well
- Lift machine and pulley areas
- Measures to be taken for car
- Measures to be taken for counterweight and balancing weight
- Measures for hanger balancing ropes
- Measures against harms to environment
- Strengthening guide rails
- Measures to be taken for machine areas and other devices
- Requirements of electricity equipment and control system
In the second session, Tavaslıoğlu mentioned the calculation features of seismic lifts and shared the annexes in the TS E 81-77 and the detailed tables and formulas on Design Acceleration.
You can find the notes on the training from Serdar Tavaslıoğlu’s website.
A plaque of appreciation was presented to Serdar Tavaslıoğlu by EMO and EAYSAD at the end of the training and souvenir photos were taken together with the participants.
