At least two new skyscraper projects are set to launch in Cebu, Philippines, SunStar reported in February. The first project, designed by Paris-based Vincent Callebaut Architectures, involves a 32-story, 115-m-tall “organic” residential tower being called The Rainbow Tree, in honor of the rainbow eucalyptus, a colorful tree common in the Philippines. The tower structure will be solid wood and adorned with colorful plants from nearby tropical forests. It will be located in the 50-ha Cebu Business Park (CBP). The second project, also in the CBP, has yet to be revealed but involves a reported partnership between Chicago architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Cebu Landmasters, Inc. An earlier filing said the project would be a mixed-use community with hotel, retail and office components. An official announcement is expected in May or June.

Smith Tower in Seattle was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River when it opened in 1914; today, it is dwarfed by some of its neighbors, but a recent renovation has given new life to the beloved landmark.
