Smith-Hill-Elevator

Photos of this hand-operated Smith-Hill elevator were sent to us by ELEVATOR WORLD reader Pamela Chaney. Located in an old hardware store in Montpelier, Indiana, the ele-vator has been dated to 1888 and remains in working order. According to Chaney, the unit has a stop-braking system, counterbalance built into the sides and uses ropes between 1- and 1-1/2-in. thick.
