Standard and Customized Safety Fixtures

Metropolitan transit authority’s needs illustrate what PTL does for its clients.
Among products offered by PTL Equipment are customized escalator safety fixtures. In 2015, a metropolitan transit authority contacted PTL in search of a customized version of its ES1 Emergency Stop Station for escalators. A number of the client’s escalators are located outdoors and operate in sometimes harsh weather conditions. PTL developed a self-evacuating, weather-resistant unit that fulfilled both the client’s needs and budget. The units exceeded expectations and are now part of PTL’s ever-expanding line of customized products designed to withstand an exceptionally high volume of traffic.
PTL provides safety stations for both elevators and escalators that boast intuitive architecture, uninterrupted performance and ease of installation. A system includes PTL’s signature buttons and switches supported by rugged, stainless-steel plates. Components are housed securely in a welded stainless-steel box. A LEXANTM polycarbonate lens further protects components and rounds out a unit’s structural integrity. The LEXAN “doors” also present required, easy-to-read instructional signage. They further serve to activate a buzzer/alarm mechanism when an emergency-stop button is triggered.
PTL’s start-button station doors for escalators include a unique locking system that further ensures the safe re-start of a unit following an emergency shutdown. The finished units then mount directly into the existing newel via an easy-to-install frame or are secured on customized pedestals.
All standard PTL models are constructed of 304L stainless-steel components. Naval brass units are offered to match existing site materials or to meet a client’s particular aesthetic needs. There are 316 varieties of stainless steel available for installation in highly corrosive environments.
A variety of specialized high-security locks provide heightened levels of protection in vandalism-prone locations. Slimline versions accommodate installation space limitations where standard size units do not fit. Self-evacuating, gasket-sealed, water-resistant designs meet the challenges of harsh weather environments.
