Upper West Side Tower Designs Revealed

Architectural firm Snøhetta has released the first renderings of a residential tower being planned for New York City’s (NYC) Upper West Side, The Architect’s Newspaper reports. The split, tapering tower will sit between Lincoln Center and Central Park at 50 West 66th Street. At 775 ft. tall, the 127-unit building will stand significantly higher than most of the surrounding structures, but the architects trimmed the upper floors to minimize its impact on the skyline. The tower has a 16th-floor amenity terrace that creates a distinct vision of two volumes. A two-story limestone, bronze and glass retail podium will contain an entrance for an adjacent synagogue on 65th street. Construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2018.

New York YIMBY has fresh renderings of 200 Amsterdam Avenue, a 55-story, 668-ft.-tall tower that is among numerous residential projects taking shape on the Upper West Side. Renderings reveal an Art Deco-inspired design with a glazed aluminum curtain wall, metal panels and composite masonry, including vertical piers that frame windows on the north and south elevations. The first two floors will have a light-gray limestone façade with black granite and stainless-steel accents to complement the look of the upper floors. Elkus Manfredi is the design architect, with CetraRuddy handling the interiors. It will have 112 condominiums within at least 400,000 sq. ft. Though little progress on it has been made on tis since its unveiling in June 2016 (ELEVATOR WORLD, September 2016), 200 Amsterdam is now scheduled for completion by 2020.

New Plan for Brooklyn Tower

Developers have filed permits with the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) for 420 Albee Square, a high-rise project for downtown Brooklyn that’s been in the planning stage in one form or another for more than two years, New York YIMBY reports. The building, originally envisioned as Brooklyn’s tallest residential tower, was reconfigured as a 600-ft.-tall office building (EW, January 2016). The most-recently filed DOB permits call for a 36-story, 495-ft.-tall office building that will hold 385,460 sq. ft. of space. Six floors will house a school, with the rest dedicated to offices. JEMB Realty and the NYC Economic Development Corp. are developing the site, and FXFowle is now listed as the architect, replacing Kohn Pedersen Fox.

52-Story Residential Tower, a School and More in Jersey City

A plan to build a 52-story residential tower, 16,485 sq. ft. of retail and a public school at 25 Columbus Drive in Jersey City, New Jersey, has been approved by the Jersey City Planning Board, Jersey Digs reported. L+M Development Partners is behind the project, designed by New York-based Handel Architects. The tower will include 750 units, and be complemented by a 35,000-sq.-ft public school, lower-level buildings housing stores, approximately 400 parking spaces and a public plaza. L+M has also agreed to renovate an existing public housing complex nearby.
