EHC Global to Supply Handrails to French Rail Networks
EHC Global announced in December 2018 that it has received a two-year contract to supply escalator handrails and related services to the Paris Métro and the Réseau Express Régional (RER) networks. Under the terms of the contract, EHC will supply NT and Tuf Flex handrail platforms, in addition to field splicing and technical support services.
The contract was executed with Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP), the agency that oversees most of the public transportation system in Paris, including the Métro, tram and bus services, and part of the RER. With 16 lines and more than 300 stations, the Métro is one of the busiest in the world, and in 2016 was ranked the world’s best public transit system by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy. RER is a hybrid commuter/rapid transit system serving Paris and its suburbs through five lines and 250 stations, some of which connect with the Métro.
The NT handrail platform was introduced in 1997 as an environmentally friendly and technologically advanced alternative to conventional rubber-based products. It is available in a wide range of profiles and colors, and is recyclable, easy to clean and requires minimal maintenance.
“We are very pleased and proud to announce this latest contract award from the RATP to serve the needs of the Paris Métro and RER networks, and the millions of Parisians, tourists and business travelers that rely on public transit each and every day,” said Norman Rosnersky, Managing Director of EHC’s Central Region.

Handrail Sanitizer Startup Signs Hamburg Mall Contract
Escalator handrail sanitizer startup UVIS UV-Innovative Solutions GmbH (ELEVATOR WORLD, January 2017), headquartered in Cologne, Germany, signed a contract with property manager ECE to install four UVIS ESCALITE ultraviolet-C (UV-C)-disinfection modules on escalators in Phoenix-Center shopping mall in Hamburg, Germany, in November. Using UV-C light to destroy bacteria, viruses and fungi, the modules are indicated by large stickers on the balustrades. UVIS observed Phoenix-Center has the first “germ-free” escalators in Germany. A post-installation survey found that 91% of shoppers said their experience was more comfortable thanks to the disinfected handrails, which also had a positive effect on the perception of safety, cleanliness and the shopping center’s image. UVIS aims to expand to other shopping malls.
