There are some bitter realities of the lift sector in our country that do not change. At the forefront of these are maintenance and installation companies operating informally without having a Service Competency Certificate and security components that are produced and certified without regard to safety. To discuss these issues and find solutions, two important workshops were held at the end of February and the beginning of March.

The first of these workshops, hosted by the All Elevator Industrialists and Businessmen Association (TASIAD) and the All Elevator Industry Employers’ Union (TASIS), took place on February 28-29 in Ankara Kızılcahamam under the title “Workshop on the Improvement and Development of Lift Activities.” During the workshop, which took place with quite an intense agenda, a piece of information shared by Turgay Kuluğ, the president of TASIS, shocked everyone. He stated that a company operating on the European side of Istanbul with only four employees registered a total of 3,632 lifts within the year 2022. This example laid bare the current situation in its entirety.

On March 6th, under the organization of the Turkish Elevator Industrialists’ Federation, a workshop was held at the HM Commerce Hotel in Ankara to discuss the production, usage and testing methods of brake, regulator and UCM (uncontrolled cabin movement) systems. The aim was to evaluate the theoretical and practical aspects of these products with the principle of continuous improvement and to enhance the quality of the products. Sessions were held simultaneously in different rooms for all product groups.

Evatek, which has realized many successful projects both in Türkiye and around the world, took on the name Savera Eva Asansör as a result of its merger with Savera Group.

ELEVATOR WORLD magazine celebrated its 70th anniversary last year. Last year, in each issue, we shared with you the development of our publication over the past decades, which is almost a chronicle of the lift and escalator industry, through the articles of lift historian Dr. Lee Gray. Following the EW series, we will address the history of Asansör Dünyası, the first magazine in Türkiye’s lift industry, with a similar series of publications.

We have chosen the subject of this issue as Automatic Doors and Door Operators. Although the number of door manufacturers in our country exceeds that of the entire Europe and the U.S., unfortunately, price-focused competition affects companies that do quality work in this field. We would like to thank Manfred Stein, Jim O’Laughlin, Burak Hızarcıoğlu, Süleyman Özcan, Cem Kapukaya and the Fermator Group for their articles contributing to our issue, which covers numerous topics in this field.

We hope you enjoy reading this issue, which features an array of news and content from both domestic and international outlets.
