A classic problem that we have had as a country for the last 10 years is that we fray around the edges when leaving each year behind. At this time last year, COVID-19 was our main agenda item, and we are leaving this year behind with the problem of high inflation. Following the concentration of all powers in our country in one person, and with the loss of the function of independent institutions, every scientific and irrational decision made about the economy comes back to us as high inflation and current account deficit. It also seems unlikely that things will get back on track in the short term with the “Interest rate is the cause. Inflation is the result” policy, which has no scientific basis and no equivalent. Therefore, it is already obvious that 2023 will not be quite promising either.

In this environment full of economic turbulence, our elevator and escalator industry is differentiating positively with its export performance. According to the Elevator Industry Report 2021, published in December, the registered elevator stock in our country is 700,000, and the elevator and component exports have exceeded US$297 million. You can see all the data about the industry as published by the ministry in this issue.

The ISEE 2022 fair, which had to be postponed several times due to the pandemic, was organized by Tak Expo in India on December 1-3, 2022. ISEE 2022, which was held at the Bombay Exhibition Center in Mumbai, pleased all participants and visitors as the largest Indian exhibition organized to date.

The Growth Machine bulletin published by the Machinists of Türkiye announced Türkiye’s Export Champions according to their performance in 2021. Machinery Exporters’ Association member companies were listed according to their performance in their sub-sectors, and 160 plaques were awarded in 32 categories. The export Champions of Lift and Assembly Manufacturers have also been announced.

While the number of newly completed projects shows a downward trend due to high construction costs, the issue of Maintenance and Modernization has started to gain even more importance for the industry. We have discussed this field, which is becoming increasingly important in Europe and in our country, and in which the competition is getting hotter, in the first issue of the year. In this issue, you can read valuable articles by Ferdi Kidiman, Süleyman Özcan and Eduard Amigo related to the subject.

The second Southeastern European Elevator Meeting – SEELift Network Conference, which is organized every two years in the Balkans by three associations, was held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, on November 7-8, 2022.
