The United 2012 convention, to take place on Sep-tember 10-13 at the Sheraton Atlantic City and Atlantic City Convention Center in New Jersey, promises a “combination of market strength, ideas and innova-tion; a networking opportunity for all factions of the North American elevator industry; educational topics addressing every aspect of the industry; and opportu-nity for shared members of the organizations to meet continuing-education requirements for many certifica-tion needs in one event” and more. As we have seen so far with United in Toronto 2005 and United in Orlando 2009 (ELEVATOR WORLD, January 2006 and December 2009, respectively), participating organizations the Na-tional Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC), NAESA International, Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) and International Association of Elevator Consultants (IAEC) are able to live up to such lofty promises.
The first United, held on September 25-29, 2005, in Toronto, saw the successful blending of all these events and boasted unprecedented numbers for North American industry exhibitions: 2,500-plus attendees, 408 fully registered delegates and 719 exhibitors. Sep-tember 18-24, 2009’s United in Orlando also served as a 60th-anniversary celebration for NAEC. There, 2,317 registered, with full delegates making up 430 of those and 744 exhibitors.
In addition to the participating associations’ annual, board, regional and officers meetings and large expo, the main event will include the following: 21 educa-tional sessions; a panel discussion on codes; a golf tournament; the annual President’s Welcome Recep-tion, Fun Run, Opening Breakfast, cocktail reception and formal dinner, Awards Breakfast and Dregs Party. An Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) fund-raising party will also be held, from 7:30 until 10 Mon-day night. In this section, you will find an exhibitors’ list and things to do apart from the convention in At-lantic City. Regardless of how you spend your time there, your trip should be a rewarding, comprehensive experience.
