Elevators can have Southern accents

Our Matt Irvin found this funny post on TikTok, demonstrating that even elevators can have Southern accents. The video, shot in an elevator in Savannah, Georgia, features an audio alert with a female voice saying “ground.” But, like a true Southern lady, she says it with two syllables: “gray-ound.”

It reminded me of “Murder,” the classic episode of the American Office, in which boss Michael Scott engages his team in an interactive murder mystery game set in, you guessed it, Savannah, to get their mind off their branch potentially closing. Michael insisted everyone stay in character, including speaking in Southern accents. When accountant Oscar Martinez, under duress from Michael, tried his Southern accent, I laughed so hard I choked. I still watch the clip from time to time whenever I’m in need of a good laugh.
