You’ve heard of “Elf on the Shelf,” but what about “Elf in the Elevator”? During the month of December, UK Lift and Escalator has been having some holiday fun with a social media campaign featuring Santa’s elves in and around vertical-transportation equipment. These elves have been spotted on company cars, atop computer monitors, assisting with maintenance work and even pushing an emergency stop button.

This elf prepares to push an emergency stop button.

Simon Hay, national account manager, came up with the idea as a novel way to get the team in the Christmas spirit. “It wasn’t something I’d seen before. In addition, I thought it would be a great idea for some fun content for our followers,” Hay said. The reaction from both UK Lift and Escalator staff and social media followers has been great.

An elf ready for a snowball fight is spotted atop a company car.

Hay says the engineers and other team members have enjoyed capturing the images as they go about their work. Although some of the elves’ antics border on mischievous (popping out of a cab fixture, for example), UK Lift and Escalator hopes to share safety messages, as well as cheer. “Whilst this has been a bit of fun in the build up to Christmas, it must always be remembered that lifts and escalators can be dangerous equipment, and safety is always paramount,” Hay said. “We wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas!”

Surprise! An elf’s head emerges from a cab light fixture.
Safety first: An elf follows lockout/tagout procedures.
