Escalator Style

Wakeman Elevator isn’t a vertical-transportation company – it’s a craft beer and wine barn in Wakeman, Ohio. Interestingly, a number of restaurants and breweries have given a nod to VT equipment in their names. Below is a list of some of the most creative:

  • Elevator Coffee: Located in Portland, Oregon, this specialty coffee shop prides itself on being approachable (“Roasted by nerds, not snobs”). Coffee blends include Counterweight (dark roast), Ground Floor (signature roast) and Lift (light roast). Coffee and branded mugs, socks and shirts are available for purchase online.

  • Dumbwaiter Restaurant: A 15-min drive from ELEVATOR WORLD’s headquarters is Dumbwaiter, located in downtown Mobile, Alabama. Owner Wes Lambert and his wife, Dana, have crafted a unique menu that showcases flavorful Southern food and fresh seafood. Your author can vouch for the shrimp and grits!

  • Elevator Brewery & Draught Haus: This craft bar, micro-brewery and chef-driven restaurant is located in the historic Columbia building in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Built in 1897, the landmark features a hand-carved mahogany bar, mosaic tile flooring and stained glass.

  • Kettlehead Brewing Co.: With taprooms in Franklin and Tilton, New Hampshire, Kettlehead may not have a VT-related name — but instead they offer a beer called Escalator Style. This Imperial IPA features a striking can design featuring a stylized blue escalator. It’s available at both locations and online.
