Olympic Medals

This year's Olympic medals include a hexagonal piece of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower during an elevator modernization.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will conclude on August 11, the final day of athletic competition, with the closing ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. ET in the Stade de France. The event will feature a parade of flags and athletes — many who will be heading home with unique Olympic medals. Designed by French jewelry house Chaumet, the medals include an .6 oz hexagonal piece of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower when its elevators were modernized in 2008.

“The Eiffel Tower, the daughter of Paris and major world events, wished to give athletes an unforgettable souvenir of Paris,” Jean-François Martins, president of Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel, said. A total of 5,084 gold, silver and bronze medals were minted by the Monnaie de Paris for this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.
