18-Year-Old Worker Dies After Falling Down Escalator Shaft

An 18-year-old male worker passed away after suffering a fall down an escalator shaft during repair works in a 26-story commercial building in Central, Hong Kong on Friday afternoon, The Standard reports. The incident occurred while the worker was conducting repairs. He fell to the bottom of the escalator shaft that connects the first and third floors of a banking center. His colleagues, who witnessed the accident, immediately called for emergency services. Upon arrival, rescuers found the worker unconscious and injured, with multiple injuries to his face and body. Firefighters successfully extricated the victim from the shaft approximately 1 h after the incident. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
