City officials in Ashgabat, the capital and largest city of Turkmenistan, the Central Asian country bordered by the Caspian Sea and largely covered by the Karakum Desert, have approved a plan to replace 28 escalators along a portion of Bitarap Turkmenistan Avenue, TURKMENPORTAL reports. Bitarap Turkmenistan Avenue is the main avenue and one of the largest thoroughfares in the city. Officials plan to invite bids on November 4 for contractors to dismantle the old escalators and install new ones.
