U.K.-based Foster + Partners has completed a 200-m, 42-story skyscraper in Shanghai, China, that is part of a drive to attract development toward the city’s eastern quarter, Building Design reports. The Suhe Centre, designed for China Resources Land, forms the centerpiece of the Suhewan East Urban Complex – in what was previously a predominantly residential area. Fosters said the tower design drew inspiration from the industrial aesthetic of the historical Zhejiang Road Bridge and nearby warehouse buildings, while its dark glazing reduced reflective glare and contrasted with the stainless-steel structural frame. Every corner of the tower is a full-height glass space that frames a unique view of the city. Inside the office building’s 11-m-tall lobby, a unique reception desk is imprinted with a historic map of the Suhe River to commemorate the history of the site.
