For approximately four weeks, the elevator at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment in Huntsville, Alabama, has been out of operation, which has impacted visitors as well as the artists on the second and third floors, News 19 reports The elevator is waiting to be repaired, but everyone visiting the building in the meantime has to use the stairs, which has drawn complaints and criticism. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, historical buildings may be eligible to meet a lesser standard of accessible design under certain circumstances, and a Lowe Mills official says this applies to the situation, adding that they have reached out to an elevator repair contractor and are waiting for a response.
