Following the death of a university student in an elevator accident at a state-run dormitory on October 26, media reports have drawn attention to nine additional elevator accidents within the past 10 days in dormitories across Türkiye, Stockholm Center for Freedom reports. Some students have claimed that improperly maintained equipment is to blame for the accidents, which include elevators suspended between floors and elevators dropping several floors causing injuries. Following a recent entrapment in a dormitory in Muş province, hundreds of students protested the Turkish Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution, demanding better maintenance of buildings and technical equipment.
