BART To Allow Bikes on Most Escalators Across Facilities

San Francisco, California’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will allow bicycles on most escalators across the transit system beginning January 1, 2024, Hoodline is among outlets to report. The rule change follows the BART Board of Directors’ decision on September 28, which opened the door to more bike-friendly commuting options, including expanded access to train cars. Ten of BART’s narrowest escalators will remain off-limits to bikes, and the transport service is encouraging riders to exercise good judgement when bringing bikes onto escalators and into elevators. The policy revisions are intended “to modernize BART’s approach to commuter needs in the changing landscape of urban transit and personal mobility,” according to the source.
