Boston Escalator Outage Causing Issues

Since October 2023, T riders in East Boston have been using a tight stairwell to board the trains at Maverick Station because the escalator in the station has not been working, CBS News Boston reports. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) says a power surge knocked out the escalator and it has been waiting on parts. This particular escalator is from a company that is not the current contractor of the MBTA. It was installed before the MBTA chose a standard design for all of their escalators. Passengers now have to wait in line to access a small stairway or the elevator to get to the trains. MBTA says their contractor is working with the other escalator company to resolve the situation and is in the process of scheduling the repair.
