Boy Fatally Trapped By Elevator at Vacation Rental Home

A 7-year-old boy died July 11 after being entrapped by an elevator in a vacation rental home in Corolla, North Carolina, OBX Today reported. EMS and fire department personnel arrived at the home at 7:40 p.m. to find the boy entrapped and without a pulse. The child was freed, and the rescuers began resuscitation efforts but were unable to revive him. The boy was from Canton, Ohio, but no other information about the accident was available. A spokeswoman for the North Carolina Department of Labor said her office is responsible for elevator inspections in commercial and public buildings but does not have the authority to inspect private residential units.
