California Union Opens Apprenticeship and Training Center

The International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 8 Holding Company of California opened a new apprenticeship and training center for elevator contractors at the Marvin J. Boede Training Center in Vallejo, California, the Times-Herald reports. Officials say that a few hundred students and approximately 20 teachers will be at the site starting this fall. The training center will serve Northern California and Northern Nevada, with incoming contractors and elevator unit inspectors. The site will include the National Elevator Industrial Educational Program and will act as a recruitment center that continues education for contractors. It will also serve as a licensing center. According to officials, the IUEC has 1,500 members and 340 apprentices.
