Dave Murdoch, a technician with Windsor, Canada-based Riverside Elevators Inc., recently received a Citizen Citation Award from Windsor Fire and Rescue Service for his actions during a November 2019 fire at Westcourt Place, one of the tallest high rises in Windsor, CTV News Windsor is among outlets to report. A firefighter explained that when he and his colleagues arrived at the tower, they realized an elevator had failed due to a power outage caused by the fire. A man was trapped in the unit at around the fourth floor. Since they couldn’t access the panel to move the elevator, the fire department contacted Riverside Elevators and Murdoch was dispatched to the scene. The elevator was sent to the top of the tower, and Murdoch agreed to don a heavy air tank and walk up 22 stories to the top of the building to release the entrapped passenger. He then walked 22 stories down through a smoke-filled staircase. A Texas man who was visiting Windsor was also honored for saving two people during a fire in Windsor this past summer.
