CECA Completes North American Version Of CAT Program

The Private Residence Division (PRD) of the Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) has completed the final step in the new North American version of the Certified Accessibility and Private Residence Lift Technician (CAT®) program. National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) launched CAT in 2004, but it did not get much attention in Canada since it focused on only U.S. codes and standards. The CECA PRD worked alongside NAEC with assistance from ELEVATOR WORLD to update the program to include Canadian codes and standards. The updated version is available at EW’s online bookstore. CECA emphasized that the PRD put considerable effort into updating the program for Canada and making it more accessible to Canadian companies. “Education and certification requirements are key parts of the CECA Standard for Private Residence Elevators, and the PRD is focused on making this standard a successful, self-regulated program for this sector across Canada,” CECA said. To find out how to participate, visit the online PRD registry. “We need contractor support before it’s too late, as without widespread participation, the AHJs will have no choice but to regulate this sector,” CECA said.
