CECA PRD Reports on Initiatives and Progress

The Private-Residence Division (PRD) of the Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) recently reported on its various initiatives. PRD members continue to meet regularly to pursue efforts to enhance safety in this ever-growing industry segment. The team has been working with the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario to craft an accredited course to inform brokers of the inherent risks of non-code-compliant residential elevator installations and the CECA standard. The anticipated release of the course is in summer 2024. Also in the works are new contractors’ step-by-step instructions and a building inspectors’ information package. Both will be uploaded to the CECA website in the near future. CECA has approved more than 1,300 residential elevator permits to date, and encourages anyone interested to take the homeowners course on the CECA website.
