India’s Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) announced it will be covering the escalators and staircases at six of its stations to address concerns about commuter safety and comfort during monsoon season, reports Times Property. Officials have acknowledged passenger complaints about risks posed by slippery stairs and inconvenience caused when escalators are switched off due to heavy rainfall. CMRL is expected to finalize a contractor for the project within four months, and work will take about six months to complete once started.
