Cladding Going Up on Unique Hotel on Caspian Sea in Baku

Despite windy conditions on the Caspian Sea in Baku, Azerbaijan, cladding is progressing nicely on the 36-story, 166-m-tall offshore Crescent Hotel, part of the mixed-use Crescent Bay complex, architect Pinar Aydin of Istanbul-based contractor Lambda Construction said recently on LinkedIn. “We are very happy to satisfy our valuable client (Baku-based PASHA Construction),” she said. Barker Mohandas Middle East served as vertical-transportation (VT) consultant for the dark, glassy, arched structure, designed by Korean firm Heerim Architects to resemble a crescent moon supported on either side by multistory, column-like towers. An engineer involved in the project tells ELEVATOR WORLD the VT system consists of six scenic lifts (three on each side) and two service lifts, which were difficult to design due to the shape of the building. Intended to be an architectural landmark, Crescent Bay also includes an office tower, a residential tower and a retail and entertainment center.
