Elevator Addition for NY Library Begins This Month
Work to add an elevator and make improvements to the Naples Library in Naples, NY, is expected to start in late October, the Daily Messenger reports. Naples Library officials say the US$1.3 million project will be funded with grant money, the library’s investment fund and donations. Built in 1962, the public library on the village’s Main Street is expected to provide customers with an elevator as well as upgrades aimed at modernizing the building while adding services. The elevator is needed at the library for improved accessibility. Currently, people with limited mobility can only access the downstairs by going outside and re-entering from Harwood Lane, which is the road that runs behind the library, parallel to Main Street, according to library officials. The new elevator will provide equitable library services to patrons with disabilities and low mobility and those using wheelchairs and other assistive devices. Besides the new elevator, a 1,053-ft2 addition will feature a new entry lobby and vestibule for increased accessibility and physical connection between the two levels. The project is expected to be completed in May 2023.
