A 28-year-old service engineer trying to uninstall a temporary lift at a construction site in Sector 150 in Greater Noida, India, died after the elevator fell 25 floors to the ground on January 9, Times of India reports. Workers immediately took the victim to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. According to officials, the columns that were holding up the lift, which was installed a year ago and was being uninstalled as it was no longer needed, could not bear the weight while the engineer was working on it. Officials said the developer of the building and the private company that supplied the lift service and engineer were booked for death by negligence under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
