Elevator Upgrades on the Table for Courthouse in Illinois
Up to US$1.8 million in improvements to the elevator system serving the Madison County Courthouse in Edwardsville, Illinois, is being considered by county leaders, The Intelligencer reports. During an April 12 meeting, the County Board’s Facilities Management Committee greenlit US$175,510 for design work by AAIC Inc. and approximately US$14,000 in repairs for the facility’s two elevators, one of which is shut down. The ultimate goal is to have two working elevators, including one that provides Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant access to the fourth floor, which can currently only be accessed by stairs. If approved by the full County Board and all goes as planned, the existing north elevator would be modernized, the south elevator could remain shut down and a second elevator shaft that provides ADA access would be added.
